The size is the long arm. Put it under the shelf for the most support; the short arm screws to the wall.
Every size is cut from 5/8 in (16 mm) wide steel strip, 5/64 in (2 mm) thick, with screw holes along both arms and a slot in the brace.
A plain L bracket bends at the corner when the front of the shelf is loaded. The brace runs from the wall arm to the shelf arm and turns that corner into a triangle, which is why these suit kitchen shelves of plates, pantry jars and a row of hardcovers. It also stops the shelf from bouncing when you pull something off the front.
A pack of 4 does two shelves with two brackets each, or one long shelf on four studs. A pack of 8 covers a wall of shelving, or a set of shelves in one room and a matching pair in another, with every bracket the same height and finish.
Black reads as a deliberate dark line under a pale wood shelf and works on white or painted walls. White disappears against a white wall, so the shelf seems to float. The steel and the sizes are the same in both.
Find the studs and mark a level line. Screw the short arm to the wall with wood screws long enough to go at least 1 in (25 mm) into each stud, then rest the shelf on the brackets and fix it with short screws up through the holes in the top arm, so it can't slide or lift. On drywall with no stud behind it, use anchors rated for the weight; on brick or concrete, a masonry bit and plugs.
Wipe with a damp cloth and dry. Keep scouring pads and solvents off the coated finish.
Delivery is $6.95, and orders over $49 ship free. Unused packs can come back within 30 days of delivery.
Long arm under the shelf, short arm down the wall, brace underneath. The shelf sits flat on the top arm and the brace carries the load back into the wall.
Two for a shelf up to about 36 in (91 cm) long, three up to 48 in (122 cm), then one more for every extra 16 in (41 cm). Books and dishes do best with a bracket on every stud.
Wood screws into the studs, long enough to go at least 1 in (25 mm) into the wood, and short screws up into the shelf that won't come through the top. On drywall without a stud, use rated anchors; on brick or concrete, masonry plugs.
Yes. Same steel, same sizes, same brace; only the coating differs. Choose by the wall: white blends into a white wall, black stands out against it.
Unused packs can come back within 30 days of delivery. Hold one bracket under your shelf before you drill so you know the arm reaches far enough.
