The arm is 7/8 in (23 mm) wide. The wall plate is 1-1/4 in (32 mm) wide and has a column of screw holes, so you can catch a stud and still put in more than one screw.
A spring in the brace snaps a catch into place when the arm reaches level, so the bracket locks on its own as you lift the top. To fold, push the catch and lower the arm; it drops flat against the wall plate. Do both brackets together, one hand on each end of the top.
Stainless steel shrugs off the damp of a laundry room, a garage or a basement far better than plain or painted steel, and there is no coating to chip where the arm meets the plate. The bare metal also sits well next to stainless appliances and sinks.
Screw the wall plates into studs at the same height, using a level between them, then fit the top with short screws up through the holes in the arms. When the brackets fold, the top hangs straight down, so mount them at least the depth of the top above the floor or whatever sits below. On drywall with no stud behind it, use anchors rated for the load; on brick or concrete, a masonry bit and plugs.
Wipe with a damp cloth and dry. A mild cleaner is fine; rinse off bleach or salt, which can mark any stainless steel over time. A drop of light oil on the pivots keeps the catch smooth.
Delivery is $6.95, and orders over $49 ship free. Unused pairs can come back within 30 days of delivery.
Stainless steel stands up to damp rooms far better than plain or painted steel. Wipe off splashes of bleach or salt, which can mark any stainless finish if they sit on it.
Hold the top, push the catch on each bracket and lower the top until it hangs flat. To open, lift the top until both catches click, and check both are locked before you load it.
Go by the depth of the top. The 8 in pair suits tops about 10 to 12 in (25 to 30 cm) deep, like a laundry shelf; the 10 in pair suits 12 to 15 in (30 to 38 cm), like a small desk or a bench leaf.
One pair carries a top up to about 32 in (81 cm) wide. For anything longer, add a third bracket in the middle and screw every bracket into a stud.
Unused pairs can come back within 30 days of delivery. Measure the drop below the brackets before you drill, so the folded top clears the floor.
