What this handle is

The Matte Black Door Handle With Lock is a lever handle on a rectangular backplate. The metal body has a matte black finish that keeps glare low and blends with dark hardware, painted doors and modern trim. The lever shape is easy to grab and push down, which suits hallways, bedrooms, bathrooms and front entries. Each order is a single set with the mounting screws and latch parts you need to install it.

Size and backset

The backplate is the part that shows on the face of the door. It measures 7.1 x 1.4 in (180 x 35 mm). The latch backset is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the handle hole. This handle comes in two backsets, so you can match the hole already in your door.

Backset Best for
1-3/8 in Older interior doors and some front doors
1-9/16 in Many newer interior and front doors

Measure your door before you order. If the old latch sits 1-3/8 in from the edge, choose that backset. If it sits 1-9/16 in from the edge, choose that one. The backplate covers the old handle holes on most standard doors.

Finish and style

The matte black finish is the only color for this handle. It reads as a soft, flat black rather than a glossy one, so it works with black hinges, black switch plates and black cabinet pulls. The lever has a clean, straight profile with a slight curve at the end for grip. Because the backplate is slim, the handle sits close to the door and does not crowd the frame.

How to fit it

This handle fits standard door prep with a handle hole and a latch hole. The set includes mounting screws and latch parts, so you do not need to source those separately.

  1. Remove the old handle and latch.
  2. Check the backset of the old latch and match it to your chosen option.
  3. Slide the new latch into the edge of the door.
  4. Fit the backplate and lever on each side of the door.
  5. Drive the mounting screws through the backplate.
  6. Test the lever and the lock a few times before you close the door.

A screwdriver is the main tool you need. If the door has a tight fit, loosen the screws a quarter turn, adjust the plate, then tighten again. For a front door, check that the latch lines up with the strike plate on the frame. If it rubs, nudge the strike plate or the latch until the door closes without a push.

Care and daily use

Wipe the handle with a dry cloth. A dry cloth lifts dust and fingerprints without leaving streaks on the matte finish. Avoid wet cloths, sprays and abrasive pads, which can dull the surface or leave water spots. The lock and lever need no oil in normal use. If the lever feels stiff over time, check that the screws are snug and that the latch is not rubbing the strike plate.

Where it works

Use this handle on interior doors such as bedrooms, bathrooms and closets. It also suits a front door when the backset and door prep match. The lock gives you a way to secure the door from one side, which is handy for a bathroom or an entry. Because the set is sold as a single unit, order the number of sets that matches the number of doors you plan to update. If you are replacing handles across a hallway, keep the backset the same on each door so the install stays simple.

What you get

One single set: the lever handle with backplate, the lock, the mounting screws and the latch parts. Choose your latch backset before you add it to your cart. The matte black finish and slim backplate keep the look quiet and consistent with the rest of your door hardware.

Questions

What size is the backplate?

The backplate measures 7.1 x 1.4 in (180 x 35 mm). It is slim, so it covers the old handle holes on most standard doors without crowding the frame.

Which latch backset should I choose?

Measure from the edge of your door to the center of the handle hole. Pick 1-3/8 in if that distance is 1-3/8 in, or 1-9/16 in if it is 1-9/16 in.

What is included with the handle?

Each order is a single set. It includes the handle, the mounting screws and the latch parts. You do not need to buy screws or a latch separately.

How do I clean the matte black finish?

Wipe it with a dry cloth. Skip wet cloths and sprays, which can leave streaks or spots on the matte surface.
