Why a knurled bar

The knurl is a crosshatch of tiny pyramids cut into the metal. It gives your fingers a grip when your hands are wet or floury, and it breaks up reflections, so the brushed nickel reads as texture rather than a mirror. Smudges are harder to see on it than on a smooth bar.

Sizes, lengths and weights

Pick the size by hole centers, the distance from the middle of one screw hole to the middle of the other. The bar runs past each post, so check the overall length before you order for a narrow drawer front.

  • 3-3/4 in (96 mm) centers: 5-1/8 in (130 mm) long, 4.4 oz (126 g)
  • 5-1/16 in (128 mm) centers: 6-5/16 in (160 mm) long, 5.5 oz (156 g)
  • 6-5/16 in (160 mm) centers: 7-7/8 in (200 mm) long, 6.7 oz (190 g)
  • 7-9/16 in (192 mm) centers: 9-7/16 in (240 mm) long, 8.0 oz (227 g)
  • 8-13/16 in (224 mm) centers: 11 in (280 mm) long, 9.2 oz (260 g)
  • 10-1/16 in (256 mm) centers: 13 in (330 mm) long, 11.6 oz (330 g)
  • 12-5/8 in (320 mm) centers: 14-15/16 in (380 mm) long, 13.4 oz (380 g)

Every size stands 1-5/16 in (34 mm) off the door, which leaves room for your fingers to wrap around the bar.

Where it works

Use the short sizes on drawers and the long ones on tall doors, and keep the same finish across the room. A run of knurled nickel pulls looks deliberate next to stainless appliances and a satin nickel faucet. On a white Shaker kitchen it reads crisp and a little industrial; on dark green or navy doors it gives a cool contrast.

Fitting

The pull fixes with two screws driven from inside the door into its threaded posts. If your new pulls share the old hole centers, the swap takes a screwdriver and about a minute per door.

Questions

How do I measure for a replacement pull?

Measure between the centers of the two screw holes in the door or drawer, not the length of the old pull. Match that number to a size here; we give each size in inches with millimeters in brackets, so either side of your tape works.

Will brushed nickel match my stainless appliances?

Brushed nickel is a soft, warm gray with a fine grain, close to most stainless appliance fronts and satin nickel faucets. Next to polished chrome it looks a little warmer and less shiny.

Is this solid brass or plated zinc?

The bar and posts are brass under the brushed nickel finish. You can feel it in the hand: the 5-1/16 in (128 mm) size weighs 5.5 oz (156 g).

Can I use the longest sizes on appliance doors?

The 10-1/16 in (256 mm) and 12-5/8 in (320 mm) sizes suit pantry doors, wardrobes and tall cabinets. For fridge and dishwasher panels, use the handle brackets the appliance maker specifies; we don't sell this pull as an appliance handle.

What if I order the wrong size?

You can return unused pulls within 30 days. If you are drilling new holes, hold the pull against the door first to check the size and the spacing.
