Outdoor Socket Waterproof Box

What it is

This is a waterproof box for an outdoor socket. It sits over the socket and the plug, keeping rain off the connection. The box is made of plastic, so it is light and easy to wipe clean. It is built for outdoor sockets only and is not for indoor use.

A covered socket is useful anywhere a plug stays put outside: a charging pile, a patio outlet, a shed, a garage wall or a post by the driveway. The cover keeps direct rain off the socket face while still letting the plug stay in place.

One size is available. The box measures 3-7/8 x 3-3/4 x 3-1/4 in (98 x 95 x 82 mm).

Check the socket you plan to cover against these numbers before you order. The box is sold as a single unit, so if you have two sockets to cover, order two.

Colors

Pick the finish that blends with your wall or stands out when you want it to:

• White: blends with light walls, stucco and painted wood.
• Transparent: lets you see the socket and plug through the cover.

How to fit and use it

This box is made for an outdoor socket. It is not for indoor use, so keep it on exterior walls, posts and other outside surfaces.

1. Turn off power at the breaker before you work near the socket.
2. Set the box over the socket so the cover sits flat against the wall or mounting surface.
3. Line up the opening with the socket face and the plug.
4. Fix the box in place with the hardware that suits your surface.
5. Plug in the cord, then close the cover so rain runs off the outside.

Once it is in place, the plug can stay connected while the cover keeps water off the socket. If you unplug the cord, close the cover again so the socket stays protected.

Care

Wipe the box with a dry cloth. A dry wipe clears dust, pollen and water spots without leaving grit behind. Do not use wet cloths or harsh cleaners on the plastic.

Check the box now and then through the seasons. Look for cracks, loose fittings or a cover that no longer sits flat, and replace the box if it stops keeping rain off the socket.
